Reading U12 Teams Wrap up the Season

The two U12 Reading teams squared off for a festive morning of skills competitions to wrap up their football season.  The competitions were divided by lineman and skill players and included 7x7 passing, flag football, combine activities and ended with a tug of war.

The event started with the skill position players lining up for a 7x7 passing game.  The White team, led by quarterback George Rodgers, held off the Black team, 18-14.  Rodgers threw 2 TD’s to Owen Sinclair and Ryan Pulpi, while the Black team’s Jack Murphy threw TD’s to Brady Scott and Michael Zapach.  The difference in the game were 3 INT’s by the White team, each counting for 2 points.

While the skill players were playing their game, the lineman lined up for a friendly game of flag football, which was won by the Black team 18-6.  The Black team was led by John Irmer, throwing 2 TD’s passes and a number of big plays by Jared Settipane.  Settipane was all over the field accounting for a TD runTD catch and an interception.  The Black’s Shea Healey also added a pick 6 that put it out of reach.

The skill position players then had a flag game of their own, which the Black eked out 18-12 on a last second touchdown from Murphy to Cameron Harrigan.  The Black team got on the board early with a TD pass from Murphy to Ben Diemer. The White team bounced back when Jake Palm, playing with a cast on his broken right wrist suffered in the last game of the year, caught a TD from Rodgers and tumbled into the end zone.  The teams traded TD’s on receptions by the Black’s Ethan Pember and the White’s Pulpi, before Harrigan’s catch.

The teams then moved onto the skills competition.  The first was a 40-yard dash, with the lineman’s title going to Robbie Savio, running it in 5.6 seconds and Liam Benson taking the skill position crown, running it in a blistering 5.43 seconds.  The shuttle drill went to Settipane at 5.38 seconds.  The push-up content, that counted the number of push-ups in one-minute, was also won by lineman Settipane, with 56, followed by skill players Zach Lindmark and Trevor Fiore with 54.  The punt-throw-kick competition was won by Adrian Muniz.

Last, but not least, was the tug of war.  After a long battle, the White team came out on top…led by the entire team.  All in all, the kids had a great time to celebrate a great season of football.  Big thank you to all the coaches and volunteers throughout the course of the season.  The kids truly appreciate it!
