U10 boys play strong against Woburn for their home game win!

A beautiful crisp fall day at home became even more special when the home team took an early lead in Q1 and never looked back from there.

On the second play of the first Q a shovel pass to Ty Nicholas went 60 yards for the first TD of the game. A strong block by Jake Evans on the right side opened up a hole for Kobe Johnson to walk into the end-zone for the XP making the score 7-0 Reading. As Woburn looked to strike back strong defense by Reading prevailed with tackles by Niko Ullman and Cam Carreiro nearly causing a Woburn fumble and Jake Evans tackling a Woburn RB for a loss and forcing a turnover on downs. Reading’s next strong Offensive drive came with just over 4min left in Q1 when great blocking by Kaden McNeice and Jacob Bradshaw opened up a lane for Ty Nicholas resulting in a 25 yard run o the Woburn 20 yard line. After a short pass for a gain to Dylan Hilaire another strong block by Jacob Bradshaw enabled Kobe Johnson to score from 6 yards out bringing the score to 13-0 in favor of the Rockets and wrapping up the first Quarter.

Q2 again was punctuated by strong D when Kobe Johnson and Max Donegan burst through the line to sack the Woburn QB. Another QB sack by Kobe and Jacob Bradshaw resulted in fumble and Reading taking over at the Woburn 20. Short yardage gains by Reading brought the Rockets down to the Woburn 11 yard line but the boys couldn’t push it through on 4th down and the visiting team took over on downs deep in their own territory. A long run on a reverse by Woburn was stopped in Reading territory by Ty Nicholas to save a likely TD. Unfortunately a down later on 3rd and 10 (with 20 sec remaining in the half) Woburn through a deep 20 yard pass for a TD. The XP was stopped on a great tackle by Chase Williams and we headed into the half with Reading leading 13-6.

Q3 saw Woburn start on Offense and Reading pick up where they left off on defense when Cam Carreiro and Jake Evans came through the line to tackle the Woburn QB for a 5 yard loss on first down forcing a 2nd and 15. Dylan Hilaire also had a strong tackle on 3rd down to keep Woburn backed up and forcing a 4th and 12. Woburn again took to the air and somehow found a receiver deep downfield (despite good coverage by the Rockets) and a first down. A Kaden McNeice sack  kept Woburn from scoring and forcing a 4th and long. A false start by Woburn pushed them back even further to the Reading 20 and eventually a turnover on downs. Ty Nicholas ran for a 20 yard gain as the clock ticked down on Q3. No scoring by either team in the Quarter kept the game at 13-6.

Q4 started with a turnover to Woburn in Reading territory. Woburn inched closer to the Reading endzone but the Rocket defense pulled their best “Steel Curtain” impersonation and wouldn’t give an inch to Woburn on the next 2 downs. A 4th and inches was pushed back by the Rockets and forced a turnover on downs. Reading took over and quickly took advantage of the defensive stop with 25 and 45 yard back to back runs by Ty Nicholas with the latter resulting in a TD. A missed XP put the score 19-6 in favor of Reading with 5:23 remaining in the game. Ferocious D by Reading was again evident when Danny Fitzgerald and Jared Frazier teamed up to force a fumble and recovery. Reading couldn’t convert the turnover to points but was again able to stop the Woburn advance with great tackling by Nick Marrangoni and Niko Ullman to force a 5 yard loss and prevent a likely TD run (respectively). Reading ran the clock out on the next drive and took home a hard fought and well played win over Woburn with the final score 19-6. Reading heads into next week at 2-3 on the season and strong momentum to get back to .500.
