Rockets Air Attack Overwhelms Woburn, 22-0

The Reading Rockets U12 team took the field on a perfect Fall afternoon to face off against the Woburn Bulls at Reading Memorial Stadium. The Rockets were led by captains Will Chute, Colby Van Horn and Thomas Lafferty who deferred the opening kick-off to the second half. Jake Palm teed it up for the opening kick and the game was underway.

The Bulls tried to establish the running game early but were met by Joey Cardarelli on their first few plays for no gain. On 3rd and long, Jack Murphy sacked the quarterback and the Bulls were forced to punt. The Rockets took over and methodically moved the ball down, with first down runs by Sean Green, Zach Lindmark and Chute. The offensive line, led by Lafferty, Cardarelli, Robby Savio and Frankie Travassos, created big holes throughout the drive. As the Rockets moved the ball into the red zone, George Rodgers came in at quarterback and hit Palm for the first of three long TD passes of 20 or more yards. Palm converted the extra point and the Rockets had an early 8-0 lead. On the subsequent possession, Jacob Whitmer recovered a Bulls fumble and the first quarter would end with the Rockets up 8-0 and the ball in Bulls territory.

The second quarter started with a big Rockets run by Ryan Pulpi for 15 yards deep into Bulls territory. Rodgers dropped back on the next play and hit Palm for their second TD connection and the Rockets went up 14-0. The PAT was no good and the Rockets maintained a 14-0 lead. On their next drive, the Bulls moved the ball down the field to the Rockets 10-yard line, but the Bulls QB dropped back and was hit hard by Pulpi, forcing an interception by Palm to end their drive. On the next play, Rodgers hit Zach Lindmark on a screen pass for 25 yards, then hit Palm on a long, jump ball TD pass to extend the lead to 20-0. Palm converted the PAT and the Rockets went into the locker room up 22-0 at halftime.

The third quarter started with the Rockets receiving the kick-off and moving the ball down the field, with big runs by Green to get the ball into the Bulls territory, but the drive stalled, and the Rockets were forced to punt. On the Bulls next possession, Zach Labriola intercepted a pass by the Bulls QB and the Rockets regained possession. The teams traded possessions over the next quarter and a half, with the final bell sounding and the Rockets on top with a convincing 22-0 win.
